WORDPARTY TUESDAYS @ CLUB DELUXE

October 2006 Re-cap...

We have had quite a busy fall! Let us start by giving you some details on The Poetry Bus Wordparty event that happened in October.

Stopping at 50 cities in 50 days, the 2006 Poetry Bus Tour, sponsored by Seattle-based independent press Wave Books, was the most ambitious poetry tour ever attempted. San Francisco was one of the last stops on the map before these tired, yet inspired, poets headed home to Seattle.

We had a fantastic and successful reading! The Wordparty poets: Jennifer Barone, Ingrid Keir, TRDMRC, William Taylor Jr., and Jesse Whiley gave a powerful representation of the energy on Tuesday nights at Club Deluxe. Just a few highlights - Jesse Whiley’s performance was delivered with a cadence and sound that quieted the room and he had us on the edge of our seat! William Taylor Jr. read from his newest book, So Much is Burning, and gave us a glimpse into his neighborhood and daily life. TRDMRC read a piece titled “what if” that had the audience questioning societal constructs. Jennifer’s “Ode to Hair” was met by laughter and heckles. Ingrid read “Candela” which had folks moving their hips to a salsa beat.

In addition to the Wordparty performances, Ingrid was particularly excited to hear Joshua Beckman, Andrew Joron, Noelle Kocot, Maggie Nelson and Edwin Torres. Joshua Beckman read his “karate chop of love” which we are now coining as an official phrase! Several poets from the Poetry Bus were excited at the prospect of reading with our Nova Jazz Quartet, particularly Noelle Kocot and Andrew Joron. You can view a video of their performance from the event at www.poetrybus.com.

All-in-all we would like to thank everyone who came out for the event. We had a fabulous time!

Which brings us to Halloween! What do you get when you mix a Bling-Bling Rabbi, A Steamroller and The Virgin of Guadalupe? That’s right a Halloween Party, Club Deluxe style! We had a fabulous night of poetry and music. Although Ingrid had to eventually remove her steamroller skates for safety, the costumes were hilarious - we think James’ afro wig may have an entire family living in it! Ozzy came with a friend prior to Halloween to share an exciting, and acrobatic performance, with Club Deluxe, see photos to the left! Thanks for helping us to eat all the chocolate (or else we would have made ourselves sick) and for coming in costume and sharing your poetry with us.

See you next week!!!

—Ingrid, Jennifer & Daniel
