June 2006 Re-cap...

There were too many memorable highlights from June's poetry and live jazz performances, but we had to narrow it down somehow!

– The beginning of June started off with a surprise birthday cake for Daniel, host of the musical madness that sets Tuesday nights at Club Deluxe on fire! And a fiery cake is seen to the left, yellow and vanilla yumminess for all. The band and our lovely crowd chimed in to sing him "Happy Birthday."

– Jay Johnson, Club Deluxe owner and resident crooner, grabbed a guitar to sing, "Young at Heart" for the birthday boy. Man, we love when Jay graces us with a performance. He's one class-act!

– Speaking of class acts, Shane was our guest host for the live jazz portion of the evening while Daniel was away. He did a stellar job and even surprised us with preparing not one, but TWO free beer trivia questions! On top if all, (no pun intended) not only can he play a mean sax, but this man can rock a hat. Stylin'!

– Also stylin' is our very own Lola. We had to zoom in on his shoes because this poet can not only break it down with the band, but holds his own in 5-inch platforms. Wow, a talent in and of itself.

– A new poet on Tuesday night, and our new favorite is — Bear. He gave us the low-down on what NOT to call him, how he likes to make love and an exciting tribute to summer movies he's looking forward to.

– Wiseproof came by asking the audience to come up with letters as he free-styled on the mic! Check out his very own open mic on Fridays at Cafe International, in case you haven't heard!

– Ledbetter let loose and was almost kicked off the stage for stepping on the P.A. during his performance, but he can't help it! He's got a lot of energy!!! Let's hear it for Ledbetter! Always a pleasure.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for July 18th which will be our one year anniversary party at Club Deluxe, home to Tuesday Night Open Mic Poetry and Jazz Jam since 2005!!!

We want to party with you and celebrate all that is SF's most fun Open Mic as we've heard on the streets. Come join us for great poetry – open mic sign-up at 8pm sharp! We're going to have Free Beer Trivia with Daniel, Birthday Cake, Prizes and of course LIVE JAZZ with the Nova Jazz Quartet! Come on down and celebrate with us!
