2005 Re-cap...so far...
It's been a little more than a month into our poetry and jazz night at club
deluxe and it’s starting to heat up. It's amazing how every Tuesday
night is completely unique with so many fresh faces, sounds and words. Historically,
especially in San Francisco, poetry, jazz and art have fed off each other;
music inspiring poetry and poetry being a playground for sound interpretation.
Poetry speaking to a sax, a trumpet or a poet vibing off the bumping stand-up
bass. Truly inspiring!
Some recent highlights have been William Taylor Jr. reading some great new
work as well as selections from one of his favorite poets- David Lerner. A
hip hop guest performance about how your art will never cheat on you! Nicole
Henares' well-performed piece about a childhood memory on "It's a Small
World." Diamond Dave gracing us with his spontaneous free verse. North
Beach poets Mark Schwartz of the Cafe Prague series & Rosemary Mannos
reading from her chapbook "Fire Angel." Brian Morrissey, all the
way from the Santa Cruz Wired Poets Reading series as well as the poet J.C.
taking our wild group of musicians into a frenzy of avant guarde verse and
free jazz with a reading from his chapbook, "Wildlife in the Redwoods."
Great things in the works, so please come on down to club deluxe and bring
your poems, bring your instrument, bring your good energy...
Hope to
see you next week!!!
