POETRY & JAZZ JAM – TUESDAYS @ CLUB DELUXE

April 2006 Re-cap...

Club Deluxe on Tuesdays was full of energy in celebration for National Poetry Month and also Ingrid's birthday! It really was a party despite the April showers, we had our own brand of sunshine:

– The 8th of April marked Ingrid's birthday, which of course lasts all month! Matt Wolf and Charles Curtis Blackwell came to rock us with their spoken word.

– A giant ho-ho for Ingrid straight out of North Beach's finest bakery, it melts in your mouth. Happy Birthday Ingrid!!!

– Ingrid and Jennifer were lucky to be a part of the "Poem Under the Dome" reading at City Hall to celebrate National Poetry Month. The best part of the event was the hosts who came to all the open mics in the city with a lottery drawing for the initial line-up at City Hall. We picked a name out of a hat and the lucky winner was...

– Bah, bah baaaaaaaa—Our very own Trdmrc, (a.k.a. Marcus.) Not only does he rock the mic at Club Deluxe, but he rocked the mic at City Hall! Watch out for Trdmrc, we're looking forward to adding his poetry to the wordparty website soon.

– The ones responsible for anarchy at City Hall and our Tuesday night—E.K. Keith, open mic host at the Unity Cafe and Charlie Getter, host of the mic-less open mic at 16th and Mission. Not featured in the pic, but a huge inspiration is Diamond Dave Whitaker, host at the Public Library. They did an AMAZING job of inspiring us and putting together a really great reading. Thanks guys for keeping poetry alive and well!

– Our band and featured musicians in action! They were standing on chairs
and making us stand and applaud. Can we hear it for the band one more time?!

– Our new regular Jimmy came to shock us with his special brand of funk and spoken word. He's grown leaps and bounds always trying new things from spoken word to the written page. Kudos!

Hope to see you next week!!!
